Things To Do If You Are Stranded In Your Boat

Boating is definitely an adventurous activity. It is an undeniable pleasure for most of us to be out in a boat and enjoying the sun, the wind, the water and whatever else nature decides to throw in our face!

There are several things that you can learn when you are out there in your boat. You get to know various places, you can fish and become experienced in that, you can see wonderful things that you can never imagined on land. In short, you can appreciate nature's bounty.

Getting Stranded in your Boat

Boating can be a marvelous experience; however, it has its downfalls too. One of these pitfalls is getting stranded in your boat.

There are several things that might make your boat stranded in the middle of an aquatic nowhere. The boat may have exhausted its fuel or there might be some sudden snag in the engine of the boat. It is also possible that something gets wedged in the boat's mechanical parts and needs repairs. In some cases, weather can also cause boats to get stranded.

Some of these things can be avoided. However, things that occur due to natural causes cannot be prevented, come what may. That is the reason you must know what to in case such calamities occur.

These are a few of the things that you can do.

1. Keep your cool before you do anything. In most cases, when your boat stalls without warning, try to paddle it somewhere you can reach. Check out where you are and what lies around you. Take full measure of the surroundings you are in before trying to do something.

2. After you have understood the layout of the sea well, you must try and check out what you can make use of. See if you can find out where you are exactly located and if the water where you are present is really deep. Find out where you are subjected to strong waves or if there are some rocks nearby that can damage the engine or the propellers of the boat.

3. Use your radio if you have one at the moment. This is the best action you can take under the circumstances. Get help from someone if possible.

4. In some cases, just waiting and then trying to restart the engine helps. Engines can get exhausted and letting them be off for a while helps.

5. In case a lot of time hasn't elapsed since you have left the shore, you might be quite near it still. You can see if paddling back to the shore is an option. See if there are any indications around you that this might be possible.

6. If there are other boats passing you by, you can signal to them for help. If you have a rope with you, you can ask other boats to tow you with that.

7. Remember to put some sun blocking cream when you are stranded. This saves you from potential burns. Also, drink water to avoid getting dehydrated.

Final Word

Things do happen when you are at sea. But most of these can be overcome simply by levelheadedness and analyzing the situation.
